Currently golfers practice in ideal conditions on flat ground with a perfect lie. However, golf is never played in ideal conditions. Courses feature highly varied terrain that requires adaptable swing mechanics and immense skill. The current pitfall of modern day simulators is that they fail to replicate these difficult conditions and therefore fail to prepare golfers for the course. Our product solves all of these issues and more.
I am currently leading an interdisciplinary team of PhD, masters, and undergraduate students to build this golf simulator platform. Three microcontrollers connected via I2C, five motor drivers, nine actuators, and nine custom ball joints make it all possible. This simulator replicates complex terrain to 2mm accuracy (when compared to fitted planes of the complex surface). Computer vision enables enhanced biomechanical analysis of swing mechanics. More features are in the works and V1.5 is coming soon!
